2nd Owner 06 350z oil consumption test and warranty
Any 2nd owners had the engine replaced on your 2006 350z with oil consumption issues? My 350Z went to the dealership today after the oil dropped from high to low over the course of 1900 miles since last oil change at the dealership.
The dealer asked me where I bought the car when I first brought it in? I told him I was the 2nd owner, and that I bought it through a private sale. It has 37,000 miles on it, so it should be covered under warranty.
Anyone have any issues getting a new engine under warranty as the 2nd owner?
They asked me to bring the Z back in 1000 miles to check the oil level. Also the service rep said if it happens when I bring it in again they will go after Nissan with this issue and provide me a loaner car next time.

You won't have a problem, just be persistent. Don't let them screw you out of it, as no matter how hard the last owner of the car was on it, it should not burn a single drop at 37k. They're going to want to do an oil loss test on it and they'll lock your dipstick. If you have a burner, you'll know it, and it truly sounds like you do. If it's under warranty still, which it is, then get it done asap.

Thanks, Do they really lock your dipstick? I can't check it on my own anymore? I'll need to go outside later and see if they locked it.
Thanks
Thanks

sorry for the hijack, but i dont want to start a whole new thread.
i got my motor replaced and the "new" motor still burns oil. however, my car is now out of warranty. does this mean i can no longer get a new motor by nissan? or will they still replace it after running tests on it?

Yeah, they'll lock the dipstick and put a snap cover on the drain plug so you can't tamper with it and try to get a new motor if yours is actually within spec. I doubt they locked it already unless you have in writing that they are doing an oil burner test, they'll probably start it after your bring it back in after the 1,000 miles to check it again. You're on the edge of the 1qt/1000 miles problem, so the only thing I can say is that the act of engine breaking at high RPM will pull more oil past the rings and involve it in the combustion process...

The new motor comes with a 12 month warranty , so if its still burning oil they should replace it.

Just go back in there and they'll retest your replacement motor. They'll fix it again if it's out of spec.

As far as I know they are not replacing long blocks anymore, only short blocks. Check my post on the main oil consumption thread. New TSB is out which sucks. I might just stick with my oil consuming engine since I don't want dealer assembling the engine.

I'm about to start this fight again with my local dealership. If I happen to lose (i.e. they say it's not burning enough oil to be out of spec), is it hurting anything if I just keep running the car as usual and add some oil every thousand miles? In other words, is there any detriment to engine performance, or fouling O2 sensors or anything like that due to some oil burning?
