Last night driving home i started hearing a additional sputtering noise coming from around the cat area around 3-4k rpm.

i cant hear it from the engine bay poking around, but around the mid section of the car its there. nothing at idle. i poked under the car with a flash light and it definatly sounds like its comming from the passenger side cat area.

sounds like... for lack of better words to express it...

sorry if it sounds stupid, but would love to get some experienced opinion before i take it in

car specs:

06 GT 34k mi

nismo clutch, flywheel, intake, exhaust

 

Does it sound like an air leak? That's certainly possible if there is a pin hole at one of the flanges or in the flex section of the y-pipe.

 

Then you will have to get under the car and take a look.

 

that was my first thought

ill just have to lift it and take a closer look.

you may be right cause the flex section is a little damaged

Flex joint is probably damaged. That's what happened to mine and had an additinal whisping noise. Don't know how to explain it either lol...

could also broke a seal on a weld on ur cat or y-pipe, this also happened to me but blew a pretty big hole in the weld and it cracked all the way around the pipe. At first had the same sound as my flex joint then eventually grew to sound like i didn't have exhaust from the cat back lol
