ok folks...i just picked up my Z from the dealer gettin my tranny replaced. ok..taking local to the freeway is no prob, 1stG-2ndG-3rdG....then..onto the freeway...vroom..i take it up fast, and ack! my 5th gear is stuck i can barely get into it. so dont even have to consder the 6th, i couldnt even find my 6th gear...so im tryin to force the shifter into the 5th and it just wont go in, and finally
"POP" it goes in. not actually a pop sound but it went in.

the point is, i got my frist tranny replaced due to the lockout from 2nd gear. now 5th and 6th? wtf?!?! i remember the freeplay from neutral to between 5th in 6th was more, but now it only moves a little to the right. did the dealer install the shifter wrong cuz it seems like something is gettin in the way. so ya'll think i should call the dealer first thing tomorrow or let it break in and see what happens?

 

I just got my tranny replaced also & it also has very stiff 5th & very very very stiff 6th. It will get better. I had two tranny replace as you may notice on my sig and everytime I get a new tranny, it has really stiff 5th & 6th. Don't worry, it will get better.

 

yea give it time as ssk said. Give it a good 2 months than see how it's acting. I'm next in line for a new tranny. It grinds 3rd gear some mornings

 

I have had my tranny since July and 5th is still stiff.

When you say it will get better is that just from using the car or from specifically using 5th gear, I ask as I seldom get into 5th so I really didn't notice it until about a month after I got the car back.

You did this directly after picking up the car? What kind of rpms are we talking about here? How fast were you shifting?

I am not saying that there isn't a problem. It's just that on my 2 replacement trannies I made sure to give them some break in. Blasting through the gears right after picking the car up is not a good idea. I would also think that the tranny fluid wouldn't be fully up to temp at only 10miles, not sure though.

Sorry to see you are still having problems. 5th seems to always be stiff and I use it all the time, with 8000 miles on the 3rd tranny.

well thx for the input, but i solved the missing 5th an 6th gear problem. the dealer incorrectly installed the guide plate on the shiter. after a few minor adjustments, 5th and 6th magically reappeared, but driving it tonite, i am convinced that this tranny is in fact worse than my first one despite the guiding plate prob. i was locked out of 4th gear once, and 2nd grinded 3 times. wtf is up w/ nissan?!?! i figured they're mechanics would be really reputable w/ no probs, but i guess im wrong...i will drive it for a week or 2, and see how it turns out, some modest break-in period and see how it goes from there, in 2 weeks if its still the same, back to the dealer it goes...tranny #3 coming rite up!
