Default Starter motor problem

Hi guys.

I have got a problem with the starter motor.
Watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhCX3gW2A0Y
This happens when I try to start the engine after not using the car for two months in the cold winter. Crankshaft is not moving at all during the starting process. Only a strange noise is hearable. I don't know if the starter pinion doesn't lock with flywheel or it is an another electricity problem. I tried to move the crankshaft little bit by moving wheel lifted up, but doesn't help. I waited for a little bit warmer days (not freezing) and tried to start the engine - no change, problem still occurs. That's 2004 350z, European version. Does anybody know?

Thanks.

Battery is stored outside of the vehicle in heated place and being recharger every month, so battery is OK. When I wanted to start the engine I put the battery next to the vehicle and connected it with 2 meters long starting wires.

Sounds to me like the pinion on the starter Bendix is grinding on the ring gear on the flywheel. You may have a several damaged teeth on the flywheel.

Try turning the crankshaft with a wrench or by rocking the car with the transmission in 6th gear. The idea is to make sure the crankshaft isn't frozen in place, and also to get a different part of the ring gear near the starter.

It might be just a bad starter Bendix that's not engaging like it should.

same thing happend to one of my brothers chevy trucks the starter just needed to be shimmed so it was closer to the flywheel teath and the noise went away.

is it possible to shim a starter on a 350z? i have no idea but i know thats exactly what it sounds like when the starter isn't engauging properly.

I dont think shimmying anything into place on a vehicle is or ever will be a good idea. It may fix the problem, but only god knows what could happen.

its a starter.... as long as you don't put it to tight against the flywheel nothing can happen exept maybe fall off if you forget to tighten the bolts
