Default .:*window switch or motor?!*:.

Hey Everyone,

I know you've seen this before, and I have seen the other threads about this issues, but I can't seem to get a direct answer. Here's my issue....

Driver side window, sometimes won't work. Get's stuck...blah blah blah. My question is, do I need a new switch or a new motor? It NEVER sounds like the motor is going bad...it's not slow, isn't making noises, it just doesn't work sometimes. When it does, it's as if nothing happened. Sometimes I go days without being able to get the window entirely up...then I try it once, and it works!

I can either spend less than $100 on a new switch and do it myself or a couple hundred to have the entire motor replaced. I would like to try to save myself the time and money so I just want to know what everyone thinks...

MOTOR OR SWITCH?

Thank you!
Ashley

My car did the same thing. Sometimes it would work and other times it wouldn't. I replaced the window motor and haven't had a issue yet.

Never heard of the switch going bad yet (on this car) The motor is around $140 and easy to do at home.

my passenger window did that some what... and the motor finally gave out (wasn't acting weak or anything). Replaced the motor for around $140, there is a DIY on here somewhere and if you follow that, you'll be good. I'm pretty sure its the motor and not the switch.

next time your window stops working, try this: close the door with the switch pressed up/down and see if it gets it working again, if it does then its the motor... the contacts of motor get dust (metal parts) in there and stop making good contact.

what does it mean when the driverside window is stuck in the down or up postion and switch makes a clicking sound and does work, but the passenger side of the switch works fine. would this be a bad switch?

p.s. i replaced the motor less then a year ago, so thats y i am leaning towards the switch.

You might want to try and find an aftermarket or used window motor if you do go that route. The price of the motor is $295.12 before tax for the one I looked up.
