Default 2 crush washers+ genereic bolt ok?

While changing my transmission fluid I discovered one of the bolts was difficult to remove by hand after I broke it loose with the ratchet.

Upon further inspection I noticed a small section of one of the threads missing. ( I think "jacked up" is the technical term for this.)

Anyway the nearest Nissan dealer with the bolt was in Alabama so I went to Napa and had them measure the size and thread pitch.

The only thing they had that matched was a bolt designed to "plug" an O2 sensor hole.

The bolt fit perfectly and threaded smoothly but it had a slightly wider head that I was concerned would contact a raised part of the transmission housing before fully seating.

My solution was to simply use two crush washers to keep the head of the bolt from contacting the housing.

The Nissan parts guy said the transmission housing didn't require any special bolt but I will feel better if some DIY vets inspect my "fix".

So will this be ok, or is using two crush washers a no no? Torqued to ~28lbs, BTW.

Does the extra space created by the crush washer make up for the extra length, or how much longer was it? Since there's no picture showing the difference between the original and the new, it would be hard to say.

Also, are you planning on getting the correct bolt and just using this as a temporary/interim fix? or are you wondering if it's okay to use this long term?

I was thinking ~12 months, when I service the transmission again.

The length of the Napa bolt is about 95% of the stock unit. (but I think the stock bolt is deeper than top half of the threaded hole anyway)

I have two days at the track coming up a week from today. So I will jack up one side and take a look after each day.

If it's still ok, I think I will just get the proper plug next time I service the transmission.

I think that you've got the right idea checking on it just to be safe.

It's far from the worst thing I've ever done to jerry rig something in one of my vehicles.
