A/C Condenser Fan Intermittently Functioning
Required Info: 2004.5 with 29.5k miles
On the ride home from work today, I realized the A/C system was getting hot at stop lights. I researched the issue and it seemed to be the A/C Condenser Fan failing.
So when I was driving, enough air was flowing through the radiator and then through the a/c condenser to cool the freon in the A/C; however, when I am at a stop, since the fan isn't working it would get warm. I got home, popped the hood and sure enough the fan wasn't working.
This is where it gets sticky. I was driving the car to softball practice and I didn't notice the issue, a/c was cold all the time. So on the ride home from softball, I cranked the a/c to be super cold so I would notice if the air got warm easier. When i got home i opened the hood and the a/c condenser fan was spinning.
So here is my question, can a failing fan work perfectly sometimes and not at all other times? Or is this something electrical such as a controller? Any diagnostics i can try? i can't afford to research this with new parts as everything involving the a/c is pretty expensive.
TIA!

I think im going to take this the dealer today since no troubleshooting ideas were given. I cant survive without a properly running ac in this near 100 degree weather.

I've notice a similar problem in my '04 350z. Except it's only after the Z has been out in the hot, AZ, Summer sun for a while, it takes a really long time before I feel cool air from the AC. Car has to be moving forward, or the AC doesn't get cool. Once cool, it seems to stay relatively cool, even at stop lights. Maybe the radiator fan is helping?
What happened at the dealership ? Fixed? Cost?
