Default 04 350z wont start after wheel falling off

first off, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

back story:
my buddy's single turbo 04 350z was at a tire shop recently and i guess they didn't torque down the wheels. (or so he tells me)

yesterday: he was driving away from a stop light and at about 5mph his left rear wheel fell off and his car hit the ground. it doesn't look like it did any damage to the rotor, although the parking brake is messed up. the muffler got a little scratch on the bottom of it. and it makes a clicking noise from that rotor while rolling. the car now cranks but will not start.

any ideas?

Unfortunate story but the title made me laugh. I forgot to torque down my lug nuts on an older vehicle once, it made a horrible vibration from wheels hitting between the lugs and the drum but the wheel didn't fall off...and that was at 45+ mph. At any rate, I do not see why the car not starting and the wheel falling off are related.

I don't see why they would be related either...but I've heard weirder. Fuel/spark/compression? They could be related...like if the exhaust was bent to hell and is no longer an "exhaust". Start with the basics and then post the results imo.

my guess would be something (not related to the wheel) popped loose when the car impacted the ground.

It's a mt. I know they aren't directly related, but I've heard of cars not starting after accidents. Just looking for some input.

Lol my user name has been the name I use almost everywhere since I was 16. I got rid of my integra at 18, and have had many cars since.

Take the car to Nissan for whatever needs to be done, and have the tire shop pay the bill.

I dont know whats wrong with the car as to why its not starting. Could be many things. I'd check the battery cable, if its not above 9.6v the computer wont turn on, check spark, check fuel. If your not getting one of those then you need to figure out why. Also when you, oh wait "your friend" gets the car started check the lug nut holes on the wheels and make sure they are not ovaled out from the lug nut not being tight and moving inside the wheel.

Emergency fuel shut off from impact? I was in a different car but I was rear ended at 15 MPH. No damage but the shock was enough to trigger the efso switch. But there was a button in the trunk to turn the fuel back on. Not sure if the Z is equipped with that but worth a shot.

Are you in the DFW area? Bring it by our shop. We have a couple of ideas on what it could be.

That's how it's supposed to work, isn't it?

From the SM:

The ECM activates the fuel pump for several seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON to improve engine startability. If the ECM receives a engine speed signal from the camshaft position sensor (PHASE), it knows that the engine is rotating, and causes the pump to operate. If the engine speed signal is not received when the ignition switch is ON, the engine stalls. The ECM stops pump operation and prevents battery discharging, thereby improving safety. The ECM does not directly drive the fuel pump. It controls the ON/OFF fuel pump relay, which in turn controls the fuel pump.
