Default Axle boot installation

So I tried searching for a DIY type thread on the forums and nothing came up.

My inner axle boot ripped all the way around. My question is, it's a basic remove, regressed and replace, correct? Is there anything, besides the obvious, that I should keep an eye on?

Another question, should I even replace the boot or replace the whole axle. Not exactly sure if my joints are still good. What it's doing is it's making a screeching/scratching type noise when I let off the throttle. I would either be cruising in neutral or in gear. If my foot is off the throttle, I would hear that sound.

Thanks in advance,
-miLes.

This belongs in the tech forum, not here. Good luck!

What year and mileage?

Any idea how long the boot was ripped before you found it?

Yah, I'm assuming I should have posted this in the "drivetrain" section. I have an 05 with 70k. I have a feeling it came from me running over someone's shredded tire on the freeway last Friday. If that was the cause, then since Friday.

Looking at it, you should be able to tell if it's recent or not. Also, looking at it, how much grease is still on it?

i guess, imma have to take another look under. From what i remember, a bunch of grease was all over the place. I really hope i just have to replace the boot instead of the axle.
