Default Problem with Intake or MassAirFlow?

Hi,

I have an automatic 2003 350z touring with over 200,000 kms on it.

Recently its been chugging pretty bad and I'm trying to figure out why. Its gotten to the point where it stalls sometimes randomly while sitting at a intersection or stop sign. I recently noticed when I press the gas softly the RPMs drop way down to ~200 almost stalling every time but goes absolutely nowhere.. Then when I press the gas harder it finally accelerates like normal, but I find it odd how the RPMs go DOWN when I press the gas.. I mean a FAST drop like the needle goes straight down and if I hold the pedal there lightly, it will stay down until I give it more gas.

I'm thinking it could be a combination of a clogged air filter and/or dirty mass air flow meter. I could replace the filter and clean the mass air flow but I want to get a second opinion before I take action.

Thanks in advance.

Replacing the filter and cleaning the MAF is a cheap diag. for what could be the problem... You don't have anything to lose.
