Default help! stuck in the middle of nowhere

hey guys i was on the freeway when all of a sudden the airbag icon lit up along with the get engine serviced soon.

i stopped at a light and even when I pressed on the gas pedal and the rpm went up the car eould accelerate very very slow, as in 5-10 miles per hour when the rpm was at about 4-5k

Ive been driving a good hour and a half, and I was told when getting my oil change my O2 sensor needed replacing last week. they told me they would turn the "get engine serviced soon" off and if it came back on I really needed to replace it. However Ive been driving it fine the past week without any issues, could a bad O2 sensor cause my car to not go?

thanks for the help!

That's some confusing symptoms. Air bag icon on, slow acceleration with the engine running 4-5K rpms, SES on, known problem with O2 sensor.

Is it an AT or MT?

How long ago did you get the oil changed?

What kind of mods are on the car?

And of course, what's the year and mileage?

Yes. Heated oxygen sensor #1 controls the air-fuel ratio and fuel injection system. Feedback from the sensor to the ECM could put the engine in limp mode.

AT, and I got the oil changed last week, after which I started getting the check engine light. I took it back to the place, and they got an OBDII reader and it said the O2 sensor was failing or needed to be replaced.

Currently I don't think the car has any mods whatsoever, and it's a 2003 touring ed. with 83k miles

I see, thank you for that information I'm going to take the car in on Tuesday to get it checked. When you say "put the engine in limp mode", wouldn't that stop the engine from revving too? I was able to rev really high, although I didn't try to go past 5k.

Also, After waiting for about 15 minutes parked by the road, I was able to drive perfectly normal again. Very strange...

4krpm and only 10mph? If this is true then your transmission is gone.

Nope, transmission is not the issue, the car is running absolutely fine again, and pulling as hard it should. I took it into the shop that did the oil changed, they put the OBDII reader in and got an O2 sensor error.

However, when I took the car in today to "Hiro's auto shop" in Costa Mesa, they told me the knocking sensor was gone and needed replacement.

Can the OBDII reader be wrong? He's asking me $577 just for fixing the knocking sensor, is this something that absolutely needs to be done right away? Any help is appreciated!
