Default Fuel pump replacement costs??

Hey all, had the car die on me in the middle of the road the other day, almost got run over by a 2ton truck ... lol

Long story short, took it into a 'reputable' auto mechanic, and he says it's $522 to get it replaced, and it seems a bit too high.

I know there are aftermarket Bosche or Denso fuel pumps that range in the $150-$280 price, and I have a friend that is a mechanic who says he can install it for me since it's pretty easy.

Are there any reasons NOT to use aftermarket pumps? or should I just ask the auto mechanic to use the $380 stock one?

Never mind, I got a brand new 255lph walbro for $100. That's a $280 saving from the stock OEM part! Phew... almost got my *** handed to me by the auto technician

I just did a fuel pump for my neighbors IS300, the OEM pump is a denso or bosch unit usually. No reason to pay ridiculous dealer markup for one, just get it from rockauto or somewhere.
