Default Shifter now vibrates at 23 k miles (Help!)

I have over 23 k miles on the Z with all the usual probs. I am concerned now because my shifter is now vibrating and making a very audible and LOUD buzz at 4500 RPMs. It always vibrated a little with no sound from the beginning. Similar to the other 350's I have been in.

No mods to tranny or exhaust. I have a grounding kit and K & N filter.

The noise has really gotten more and more loud every day. Car shifts fine with no grinding.

Anyone have this problem and get a solution?

I am going in on Friday to have it checked along with other items.

Any help is appreciated?

Mine is getting louder as I drive it each day. Again, I have 23 k miles so I am familiar with a little vibration but the buzzing noise is new and gets real loud at acceleration past 4500 RPM. Put it this way, you would be embarrased if you had a pasenger in the car and you accelarated to pass the old man in the Cadillac doing 50 in the fast lane.

Friend "Pass this guy!"
Me "You sure? 50 in the fast lane is ok!"
Friend "P#$$Y!"
Me " Ok"
Friend "What the hell is that noise coming from the shifter"
Me "Cool huh"
Friend "Sounds like freaking YUGO doing 35 MPH uphill"
Me: "I know"

This really su@#s!

Zeroday,

That's my hope. I just want to know if anyone has had it happen and fixed. Info that would be useful for these Nissan techs as we are all aware of do not know squat about these cars.

Anyone have it fixed?

Thats what he said ... a FR = Front Engine, Rear Wheel Drive

Just like:
FF = Front Engine, Front Wheel Drive
MR = Mid Engine, Rear Wheel Drive

Etc...

EzChief,

Have you ever had your tranny replaced?

When the dealership replaced my tranny last, they forgot some sort of bushing or something and from then on it would rattle in the 4-5000rpm range. The put in the parts and it works like it always has, vibrating, but not making any real noise.

No tranny replacement here. My guess is it is the bushing because if I put my hand on it, the buzzing goes away.

It seems to happen most often when it has sat for awhile and cold started. Goes away after 10-15 minutes. Definite buzzing and not vibration. Guess I will try to duplicate with the tech. If not, I will let it sit, go have breakfast and let the car get cold and then try again. I have all day Friday off so I will make it happen.

Thanks for responses and any ideas.

I just got back from the dealer after a number of hours. Guess what? The tech duped my buzzing issue and I have a problem. The tech and writer need to wait until Monday when NNA opens and the SM are in but...I need either a new tranny or throw out bearing. Why one or the other?

I do not have grinding issue, but a god awful buzzing sound at high rev +4500 RPM's in 2 and 3rd gear.

I appreciate feedback why the throwout bearing would create this buzz? I am tranny impaired. Thanks.

I think I have the same problem. I have 11,000 miles on mine & a couple of weeks ago I noticed that after I rev past 5000rpms & fall back to 4500rpms I get a rumbling sound & the shifter vibrates for about 500 rpms. At first it was only once in a while but its getting more & more frequent.

Smitty- you hit it right on the head. They told me throw out bearing or new tranny. Waiting till Monday when NNA opens and the SM is back. I am so glad the tech was able to duplicate it.

Pimp- no vibration in the clutch. Definite buzzing sound in the stick as described by Smitty. I would add that my buzzing would stay so long as I held the rpm's above the 4500 level especially in 2 and 3 gear.

Smitty, I've got that same issue in mine, 8500 miles. Anyone end up getting a new tranny for the issue? The guy I talked to at Nissan sounded like he though I was on crack when I tried to describe the problem to him.

I've got a similar issue, but mine kicks in only on occassion. It happens especially after decelerating from high revs. It feels like something just kicks in and i get this audible vibrating sound from thje shifter. i can feel it too. Then if I switch gears it will desappear. I'm baffled
