Default SES on, Need help to pass smog

Its been awhile since ive been on the forums but I come to you guys for help with my 2006 350z. Sorry if im posting in the wrong place but My SES light came on, 1100rpm Idle, pulled the code: p1084

I took it to the mechanic to confirm my findings and hopefully fix the problem. He pulled the same code but he said it was my gas cap that wasnt put on right, he cleared the code and sent me on my way home. He told me if the light came back on to come back. as i was heading up(less then 3 miles), I knew the SES was going to come back on because it was still Idling high and i can smell it running rich. When i made a stop to buy a monster, i came back turned the car on and the light was waiting for me

After much googling the code comes up as" P1084 Exhaust Valve Timing Control Position Sensor (Bank 2)"

How do i go about fixing this, i read that it is the camshaft position sensor(driver side) but the thread I found says its the whole housing with the sensor that needs to be replaced.

Any help is gladly appreciated, im trying to fix this issue since i need to smog my car to get my tags that expire at the end of the month. Thanks alot guys

It seems like you already know what it's gonna take to fix the problem.

Here's a picture of the sensor and housing.... CLICK

The smog test is the least of his worries. Driving around with a bad cam position sensor is pretty serious.

Smog is important but not as important as the health of my Z!

So took me about 30 min to get to the sensor, removed it, called my local nissan dealer. The guy on the phone was a joke! After 15 min of trying to figure out if they had it in stock, they do. I went over, turns out this moron is even more incompetent in person. after 30 min of going back and forth, he found the replacement. $87.00 later, its installed. THe battery was disconnected for a few hours so when i connected my OBD2 scanner there was no pending codes/stored codes.

I have to drive a few drive cycles to see if these sensor was the problem. I dont know if its just in my head but i dont smell the car running rich anymore and i feel alot more zipper than before. I guess i never noticed it had got pretty sluggish.

Crossing my fingers this was the problem.

Thanks ALot guys
