Soft Windsheild
Has anyone experienced excessive stone chips on their windshields? I mean to the point that in direct sun the windshield is hazed with hundreds of small chips per square inch even when perfectly clean. My Z has 23,000 miles. My 2000 Maxima has the same mileage and is clear as a bell when in the same direct light. Do we have soft windshields to go with the soft Paint?

my windshield was like that after 1 year and about 24k miles. i recently got a huge crack and got it replaced. some of my s2k friends have some kind of winshield reimbursement on thier insurance as they go through windshields about once a year. - im thinking about picking this up in the future as well.

Yeah, i've got a few chips and one massive crack across the bottome of the windsheild. I'll replace it this spring, as i want to wait till all the crap is off the road from this winter.

i picked up most of my chips from driving back roads with friends and having tons of rocks thrown at me at very high speeds. you should see my stock bumper; there is no clear coat left on it at all and if you run your hand across it, it feels like sandpaper.

yeah i got a bunch of small chips already... only 6K miles. I think its cuz our windshield is not angled as much as other cars. therefore small stuff has a better chance of smacking into us rather than glide over

I shouldn't have read this thread. The very next day, I got a 12 inch crack in mine. I'm definitely not reading any threads about transmissions
Funny thing is, about 4 months ago, I got hit with a rock that about scared the bejezus out of me. It took a nice chunk out of the class, but no crack. Last night I heard this little "tack" sound, and this morning, big crack.
BTW - all the rocks were thrown by SUV'x - I HATE THEM!!! Put some mud flaps on those landboats!
I think the windshield is more brittle at the edges than the center. The chunk was right in the middle, but the crack occured right where the rear view mirror attaches.

I was wondering about this myself. I'm glad it's happening to someone else and I'm not just being overly picky. I noticed this about six months ago; and I don't tailgate or follow anything that's going to drop/throw stones onto my hood/windshield.
But, is this a warranty issue?

Plenty of nonstop sunlight here, nothing noticeable yet. Except when I was driving by the hoover dam and I heard a high pitched wizzing sound and then became victim of three tiny pebbles hitting my windshield causing one noticable chip, and two very small chips.

Based on previous cars I've owned, I can tell you that the glass Nissan uses on the Z is pretty decent. I've already been hit several times but no dings or cracks (knock on wood). On my previous car (A4) and on my Jetta, the sucker dings/cracks when hit with the smallest of pebbles. I won't even go into how VW/Audi windshields have faint distortions in the glass...
