Default rear brakes clunk?

First off I tried searching and couldn't find what I was looking for. When I bought my car my park brake didn't work. I adjusted it using the adjusted under the coin tray. I tightened it as far as it would go and it didn't do anything. So I thought maybe the brakes were shot so I replaced them. As I changing them I found out the pads were rusted or something to the rotors. I had to take a screwdriver and hammer to remove the pads. I put the new pads on no biggie. Well it still doesn't work I was driving at about 5 mph and pulled up on the park brake and I heard a thunk or a clunk noise coming from the back of the car. Anyone have any ideas on what can be causing this?

I had a clunk coming from the front and I ordered a new brake shim kit and its nice and quiet now. May or may not be the same problem with the rears but it's something for you to check.

How are the wheel bearings? Did you check the actual e-brake setup (inside the rotor hat) when you did the rears, or just slap pads on it?

I didn't check, just put the new pads on. It didn't even cross my mind to check anything else once I saw the condition of the old pads.

Ok because the pads you changed have nothing to do with the e-brake. You either need some e-brake hardwear or adjustment, or have a bad wheel bearing like many others have found.

I'm late on the reply but I haven't had access to a jack. It is a yankee car so I'm thinking something might be rusted and or broken.
