I bought an 05 base so it did not come with HIDs. I put in a kit. I was told that the 05 Z had the same projector/reflector hybird for both hid and halogen types. But I had the same pattern when I bought the car too.

I will put the car in my garage and take it against the wall when I get home if that helps.

i've been down the fitting "hid retro fits" in a base model 350z. Biggest waste of money and time. Nothing but disapointments from pnp kits. Your only solution is

1. 65W Osram Ultra High Output (2100 lumen, H9 burner on H7 base, race and special-purpose use): $24.76/ea from daniel stern

2. expensive 06 takeoffs

3. some sort of custom projector retrofit. Try theretrofitsource is you're mechanically savvy.

Anything other than what i've prescribed and I'm afraid your wasting your valuable time.

I went the number 1 route and I couldn't be happier. I see great at night. Just make sure you align em. best of luck.

If you are really concerned about lighting output, buy the 06+ headlights.

I can second the #1 option. On my previous car (00 Celica GT-S) I purchased these "hybrid" bulbs that use an H9 burner on an H7 base and they were the best bang for the buck. Looking back, I don't know why I just didn't buy an HID kit since the car had quality projectors from factory, but regardless, those bulbs are the way to go for a "basic", high output, H7 bulb.
