Default Another window motor bites the dust....

So my driver side wondow motor is going out.. Works when it wants too, gets stuck down till i beat the crap outta the door... I saw the tons of DIYs on how to change the motors so Im planning to change it for a new one.. I read some bad things on the refurb ones, like the crap out after a few months. And even though they do have a lifetime warranty i don't feel like have to open my door up every year to swap motor.. So im opting for a new one. I figured the one the car was born with lasted 8 years so that makes more sense to me...

So i call the dealer here in Montreal, 530$!!!! wtf is that??? is the motor dipped in gold? Called Nissan in Plattsburg NY, 260$... Half the price...

Does anyone know why its such a big difference? It doesnt make sense to me, i mean, the exchange is at par.. the parts all come from the same place (i assume) so i just dont get it...

Anyways it looks like ill be heading to Plattsburg next week. Anyone in the area wanna chill for the day? lol

And the beautiful thing? You're paying top-dollar for a product, knowing it will fail soon.

did you buy your Z used? Do you know if the previous owner changed the motor? 8 years seems like 5 life times for Z window motor.

Bought it used last year... i dont think he did cuz he has a 7 year warrantee on it and it would have showed on the carfax if he did the maintenance at the dealer.. And our Z's here are only driven 6 months a year since there so much snow... i believe thats the reason why it lasted so long..

I got a quote from my mechanic (non-stealership) and he said 310 for a rebuilt... rediculous.

Just ordered a motor for my driver's side. The life of these things is ridiculous.

Default Window motor

Funny how my 280ZX window motors could last 25-30 years or more.

Wonder if i can make one fit when my 2008 window motor dies.

Man you guys, if you buy one from Advance Autoparts it's less than a $100, it comes with a life time warranty ( free replacement if it fails, EVER ) and I had one in my z for 3 years without a issue.

Why buy something if you know it's going to fail? Try something aftermarket.

I have heard other people say the autozone motors fail as well, I replaced the brushes in mine and that seems to be the key. We'll see, but it only cost me about $10

The OP is trying to avoid the BS labor that goes into replacing the motor. My drivers side went out inside of 2 years but was replaced under warranty. My passenger side needs replacing - it's OK if I don't roll it all the way down so I have been putting it off. (2003 bought new, 117,000 on the clock, year round daily driver) Seeing as how the tutorial on this site says he took 2 days, to do it right, I would opt for the best motor for the price. I've replaced other car's motors with "lifetime" aftermarket/cheap motors and that lifetime was less than a year in some cases. If I can get an OEM for around $200, Ima going to do it, especially since my club gets a 15% discount from any of the 3 dealers in town. I'll put that money into beer for the project, lol.
