Lights causing loss of power?
hello my 350z just started doing this about a week and a half ago. Its kind of annoying. When my car has its lights on and I put it to the floor it jumps a little bit(like it wants to go) but then it doesn't just slowly rises. When my lights are off however, It pulls hard and nothing seems wrong. Everyone says check the alternator and I have done so. Also it is not the HIDs because it happens when the running lights are on too. Not sure where to start looking. Not sure where to start looking for an issue. My College instructor for automotive is also stumped. We took it for a test drive and I told him to get on it with the lights on vdc off and he did. We were not going anywhere, then I told him to turn the lights off while he was driving. All of a sudden a huge burst of power came from the engine and we took off. Not sure at all whats going on here. Maybe someone on the forums has had this issue. Much help is appreciated.
Try another thing that drains some electrical power, try the A/C. Or you could maybe have a short somewhere, causing a lot of parasitic pull. Have you made any changes at all recently to your car? Are your headlights OEM? What year, how many miles? Look into a possible tuneup if haven't done so. Check the alternator connections and maybe test the ignition coils.

Also, if it happens when the running lights are on (one turn of switch), the problem could be focused on those, maybe try pulling the bulbs first. Just throwing ideas out there.
I do have after market lighting. how ever why would this be the cause of the computer slowing it down? I put them in a good 3 weeks ago and it just started happening. I have performed a VAT-40 while turning everything on in the car separately and together, but there is no catastrophic loss in electrical power.
Search the threads man.....I can't tell you why ....but it has something to do with the ecu and vomtage....aftermarket tail lights on this car will cause that problem, End of story.. put yur stock lights back on , do an ecu relearn and watch what happens... it's okay mr nothing for tail lights.
