Default 2003 gas meter problem

Ok I've had this since I bought the car and now I just want to fix it.

Ok gas meter goes up and down but it never goes to empty. One day I wasn't tracking my miles and my car died on no gas but the meter still showed half a tank.

Any fixes on this?

You have to figure out if the problem is mechanical or electrical.

The mechanical part is the float in the tank.

The electrical components are extensive including the COMBINATION METER. Get yourself a factory service manual and study.

The fix for this is likely to be cleaning the two fuel level sensors. Check with multimeter that the scales work correctly after cleaning.
