Sounds like it's been painted. Only remedy is a good prep job and paint it again.

The roof and trunk has not been repainted. I just don't know why It fades so quickly. maybe because it's "red?"

Is the car not garaged? How long have you owned it?
How do you wash?Hand?Take it through commercial car washes?
Do you keep it waxed? What product do you use.
Buffing it out is not going to help things if you have the clearcoat
worn away?Any sizeable air pollution in your area?Chemical plants etc
Consider a repaint with proper prep.

Reds were known to oxidize faster with older enamel paints.
Modern paints use clearcoating that pretty much eliminates fade with
proper wax applications.

I live in Los Angeles, the car does get a lot of tanning. I use to take it to outside hand/machine wash, but now I self wash it. don't really remember the last time it got waxed lol Point is, the Z gets the same treatment as the rest of my cars, but the Z's paint seems much worse...

The roof and trunk of my 05 faded pretty bad out here in Vegas, red black and other dark colors are the worst. Metallic also kills clear over time.

Clue here is the op says roof and back hatch. If the problem is sun, how about the hood. Unless the op parks the car with the hood under shade, it's been repainted!

Actually the hood being aluminum doesn't seen effected as bad as the trunk and roof.

Without pics it will be hard for us to diagnose, post them and you will get a qualified answer

sorry for the dirty car pix, havent had time to wash it.

as you can see, compared to the hood, the roof is pink with white zebra stripes.... same as the trunk. Also, the roof and trunk doesn't seem to have any "repainting" defects/marks

You said you can't remember the last time your car was waxed. If you aren't going to properly car for your car, then it doesn't matter that much what you do to fix your faded paint job, because it will just get messed up again. One of my great pleasures is giving my Z a nice wax job!

I would first try to get it looked at by a reputable detailer, if they tell you it's not repairable you will need to get it painted

I think that might be able to be professionally fixed but I'm not an expert on paint

I'm no expert by any means but nissan red has always been ready to fade. I'm on my second red z and the hatch is faded a bit more than I would like. I'm going to buff it out and get a few products on it and hopefully stem the problem but eh if it continues I'll just paint it again.
