Default Temperature rises to red once per trip

I replaced my thermostat(oem Nissan) and flushed my cooling system about 4 months ago and had Zero problems with my cooling system until my car went to the shop last week for multiple cylinder misfires. Now once my engine starts up and gets to operating temperature about 5 mins into the drive my temp will rise all the way to red and stay there for minute or two and then the temp will go down to operating pressure (or a few millillmeters umder halfway) almost instantly. I'm guessing my thermostat sticks once but it only happens after my cars been warmed up and then doesn't happen anymore till the next time I drive my car. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? Worst case scenario ill just install a new thermostat, housing and gasket. Would like to avoid that tho my bill was just 1800 at my performance shop.

Specs on the car? You mention "performance shop". I would be interested in knowing what the mods are as they could be part of the issue. Just a quick thing to check, does your heater stay warm? If it gets cold and hot then you could be air locked. The misfire thing make me lean towards possible head gasket issues as well.

The shop works on drag cars and performance cars... As well as regular cars aswell. I only have an Hks exaust right now and yes the heater works, so I dot think its An air bubble.

Good deal, thats what I was thinking when I said airlocked earlier. Have had the same problems with Toyota's too, they are sometimes a pain to burp. Glad you got it all taken car of and it was nothing major.

I know sometimes if its a big enough bubble you can have some heater issues, but yours must have been hanging around the sender unit.
