Default Rear Hatch won't open

My rear hatch won't open and i'm kinda getting pissed because I have some honey nut cheerios, frosted flakes, and some milk back there. This just happened yesterday and I want to get the milk out before it goes bad (It's been cold out so it's ok for now). I tried manually pulling the kidnap cord in the trunk, I tried the key fob and I tried pressing the button above the license plate. All it does is pop up and when I try to lift the hatch it just gets stuck and won't open.

As you press on the button by the license plate lights, lift at the same time on the hatch. Synchronize it.

As Kevin mentions, you need to lift while pushing the button. If the hatch is still caught, press the button again while lifting.

You probably began experiencing the problem because it has become colder. There are one or two things that will fix this.

1. Replace the hatch lifts with a stronger lift designed to support a hatch with a spoiler.
2. Replace the small “popup” springs (shown below).

I forgot to thank you guys. I got it open but I don't think I going to replace the springs. I'm just going to leave it how it is so no one else knows how to open my trunk but me. Thanks for your help guys.

Thanks for the reply/followup. When we provide advice, it's nice to know if the information is utilized and if it was useful. Tht way we can provide the best help here (which is why we are here... to provide help). --Spike
