Touch up paint pens?
Okay so I have a 2003 pikes peak white Z and its got some paint chips in the front as well as some other random chips around the car. I've been looking at the paint pens online but they all have 1 side paint and the other clear coat. The thing is pikes peak white (qx1) is a tri-coat so do I need to buy the pen + two bottles of the base and top coat or will the pen by itself still look good?

As i understand it some of these 'magical' touch up pens are only ok if the scratch doesn't go below the clearcoat as the chances of getting a generic white or a generic red is not going to give you a match on your color. The best bet is to get a touch up pen matched specifically to the color of your car. Also don't use the brush supplied with the container, use a cocktail stick to apply the touch up as you tend to put on less paint and have far more control.

I went to the dealership and b!tched about the chips until they gave me the Nissan touch-up product for free. It's two bottles that each have the option of using the pen or the little brush. One is the white base coat and one is the pearl clear coat.

It won't be a perfect match. I always used the base coat pen only when covering small chips/scratches on my PPW. If I used both the base coat and clear coat pens, it would always dry a few shades darker then my actual paint -- and it was highly noticeable (less noticeable by using base coat only).

Many people adore and highly regard POSCA pens and markers. They can be applied to a variety of porous surfaces, including unglazed ceramic, stone, wood, paper, cardboard, metal, and silicone. You can use it in conjunction with a water-based varnish, depending on the surface.
