Default Yet another tranny thread

Sorry to bother you guys, let me say I have already done a search for this and after spending oh about 90 minutes reading I didn't find what I was looking for - a good description of what exactly a gear "grind" is.

When I put my car into 2nd or 4th sometimes (this appears to happen randomly but more when cold), I feel a kind of mechanical sensation through the shifter - similar to what I feel when I shift into first when the car is still but more pronounced. Is this the gear grind? Or is the gear grind an audible sensation? All this talk about trannys has me worried about mine.

Thanks,
NzZ

I too get a grind when shifting into 2nd and sometimes 3rd mostly when cold. Once warm I rarely get a grind but I still want to get the problem fixed. I took my car in to get it looked at and they said nothing was wrong and that they couldn't get the tranny to grind. Guess I'll have to leave the car over night so they can take a cold test drive. Apparently the ginding starts out only when cold and gets worse from there. I might just have to make the tranny break if they keep giving me the " nothing is wrong with your tranny " speel. We'll see what happens.
