Default New Ignition Coil

Previously, I was getting random multiple misfires, P0300.

Replaced valve covers due to leaky spark plug tube seals, no leaks now. The oil that got into the spark plug tubes puddled up and probably damaged the ignition coils beyond repair, I cleaned them all, and the car still ran terribly. I was getting 13mpg, and felt like the car was running on 4 cyllinders. So I ordered 4 ignition coils, and thought I'd be done with it. Now, after replacing banks 2, and 4 - I get this:

Think, I'm going to throw the other 2 Duralast ignition coils in, and then have one of the ignition coils outside of the engine to test the 4 that I pull out? The two that I thought were bad were really flimsy/rubbery.

Ya, it's weird. I'm stumped now. I tested the 6 ignition coils, and 2 didn't appear to spark. I started the car with cyllinder 1's ignition coil connected, but out of the engine, and stuck a spare spark plug in it pointing upward (you can see it from the driver seat when you crank the engine on). Then, I swapped out ignition coils to see which had spark, and which didn't. I didn't see spark on 2 of the 6.

Anyone have problems with these autozone Duralast ignition coils before? Or perhaps I am just an idiot and somehow managed to use one of the bad ignition coils... maybe it's a matter of musical ignition coils?

COP tester COP tester

For $22.47, you could have bought one of these to check your coils prior to shelling out $$$ to replace them. Also, always stick with OEM coils on the Z. It hates aftermarket parts.

Yeah, I saw that tool in a video, didn't know what it was called or where to buy it though. Ended up ghetto-testing them, they all work, that tool would be nice to tell me exactly how well they each work though. It has been a PITA, I hope these new NGK Platinum Laser plugs (same ones that were in the car for the last 55k miles) fix it. I think a few of the old ones may be fouled from when I had oil leaking into the spark plug tube seals.

Fixed: 4 & 6 ignition coil connectors reversed, I'm retarded.
