This might be the millionth thread that this has been posted on here, but I believe I have a bad driver's side rear wheel bearing. I've read through several sites, and "tested" how they said to but I want to make sure before I buy a part I don't need and embark on a 4-6 repair and it not fix anything. (I'm a broke college student, hence the reason I'm staying away from local shops and the Nissan dealer to do the job.) I "tested" by jacking up the car and feeling for play by holding the tire at the 12 and 6 o clock positions and rocking back and forth. There was a little play, but nothing huge. The sound I'm getting gets closer together the faster I go, so it's a rotational thing. I will post a video tonight of the noise.

All I really want to know is if there is anything else it could possibly be before I order a new one and do the repair? I might just have to take it to Nissan, have them check if it's bad, and do the repair myself if it is. Lol.

Take the wheel, brake caliper and rotor off, then rotate the bearing hub assembly by spinning the lug studs. If you hear some grinding noise then it need to be replaced. You might also hear a jet plane taking off around 40+mph

Many thread on g35driver and here showing how to fix it. Please don't bring it to the mechanic (only to press the bearing for you)

 

There should be no play in the wheel.

I just pulled my rear spindles off for bushing replacements and noticed one the hubs moves in and out maybe 1-2mm. It never made noises and the wheel and no excess movement. I'm thinking that if the axle nut is tightened it will remove the in/out play. Is that normal or is that still grounds for replacement?
