Default Rattle and squeak rant

My god but I've just about had it with hunting down all the dang rattles and squeaks in my car! Make it feel like I'm driving some mid eighties american hoopty! I've spent way way way too much time trying to find and fix them and with only limited success. I can't even remember how many times I've torn my dash apart hunting for this one seriously annoying rattle. Every time I think I must have finally gotten it, the d*** thing comes back! I'm gonna end up have the entire underside of my dash taped, foamed, dynomatted, etc. pretty soon!

I dont understand what rattles and squeak? Mines an 05 and close to 100k miles and I dont have any rattling noises. If something is rattling, that means it's loose. find it and destroy it.
Or replace it..

You dont know rattles and crap interior until you've driven a 90's mustang.

I just drive with my windows down, that seems to fix them, it also raises the volume of the 350Z soundtrack.

hmm. after driving a 2004 grand prix the rattles in the Z are minimal. the prix's interior was almost entirely comprised of cheap plastic.

Seriously!

A big part of the problem is I just spent a lot of time putting a full new stereo in so I notice all the little noises more because I'm listening closer. I can, of coarse just turn the tunes up but still...

As for driving rattling cars, 82 camaro (don't really even like to admit that I had that one but it was high school so what can you do), 95 wrangler...

Rattle and squeak. There's an "I-did-your-wife-last-night" joke in there somewhere. I just know it.

Damn I need coffee.

yeah OP the car was designed to be gutted and put on a racetrack, a lot of people dont realize that if they upgraded the interior to luxury status, they would have to charge more for the car

Welcome to the life of a 350Z.

Should've bought a 370 if you wanted a halfway excusable interior.

Puck77 you sound just like an E36 guy. Spend more time fixing and less time ranting and there will be no rattles. Use a stethoscope or a length of hose, find the noise location, and make the necessary change.

Hard to use a stethoscope and hose while driving! That is a good idea though. I will give it a try next time I can get a buddy to go with me. I have spent a lot of time attempting to fix by the way. That is what makes it so annoying. There are a couple of noises that are coming from places that are damn hard to get to too. As you know, if you have worked on your interior, things come apart in a specific order so some spots require a hell of a lot of dis-assembly to get to and then you don't know if got the noise until you put it all back together again.

Interestingly, I find a lot of pieces of foam and felt on parts as I take them apart so this process has been done more than once in the past by previous owners. Seems to be a very common situation with Zs and Nissans in general.

As for spending time ranting, you can see that I have posted only a couple of times so 5 minutes of typing pales in comparison to the hours and hours of clip popping and foam wrapping that I have already done.

It sounds to me like you just need a louder exhaust.

I just fcking hate the buzzing sound in my hatch area during certain rpm ranges from my exhaust. Windows down masks the problem but when I'm forced to drive with the windows up its a pain in the ***.
