AT shifter +/- bad for transmission
Hi,
i overheard some rumors that when driving an auto, with +/- option and often use the +/- transmission would possibly cause harm to the transmission/the car
is that just a rumor i should ignore or it is actually proven true?
thanks for the input

great.
so soon as i dont have the needle touch the red zone
really frequently changing between auto/tiptronic is totally fine.
would that by any chance the gas mileage would improve by using tiptronic?
so far i only use when im heaving loading doing up hill, or going down hill..

I let the auto do it's thing most of the time, except for when I'd like the lower gear for corner entrances. In that case I find I need to hit the downshift a little earlier than I'd think so it can engage.
But yeah; as long as you aren't screaming off the limiter it's ok. I'll be a little more cautious of what I do when I put the Transgo kit in mine.

Using the tiptronic wont damage your tranny, you probably will get the same to a little bit more or a little bit less MPG, depending on how you drive, and even with a Transgo kit, you shifting will not do any harm. if your really worried you can bump up your tranny fluid to race fluid or a higher range fluid and you wont have any issues at all. i race my auto at track days and autocross
Tiptronic shifting won't harm anything. In some cars tiptronic actually ups the solenoid shift pressure, which causes faster shifts. Faster shifts mean less wear on the clutches, which means the transmission will actually last longer. When I had the auto I didn't notice any difference in shift speed.
One thing that will damage your transmission; shifting up while off throttle. You want to hold the gas down while the transmission actually switches gears. Don't give it gas to the top of the gear, let off, press up, then get back on it. It likely won't damage anything seriously, but a lot of sources say this is bad for the transmission. Even read it in an automotive book (LOL if it's in a book, it must be true, right?)
