So my clutch went out at 52k miles, great. Went
To a place and they're quoting $1600 for the
Clutch and $1200 more if they can't resurface
My flywheel. I have next to no tech knowledge
But that's at least a few hundred more than
I was expecting even without the flywheel part.
Is that about right, or sound high? They apparently
Give you a 2 year warranty.
Also, I hear clutches are commonly bad on '08s
Is it even worthwhile to replace it oem?
Thanks guys

My SouthBend clutch kit was $1450 with upgraded CSC and Willwood Master. You will need both those parts since you have to replace the CSC when you change the clutch. The factory one is plastic and will blow if you install an aftermarket clutch.
The reason they are quoting you so much for the flywheel is because that is the OEM factory price.Go with a single mass flywheel instead of the dual mass that comes OEM.You will get a little more flywheel chatter in lower rpms but thats the trade off as well as an aftermarket single mass flywheel is cheaper.
You can go with whatever clutch suits your needs.
You can search YOUTUBE, there are a few 350z aftermarket flywheel vids on there.
FWIW,my total bill parts and labor was $2300.Make sure you upgrade the CSC and Master, or you will be doing it all over again.

In addition to all the advice posted above I would hope you take it to another shop for second opinion. Also you can get the quote and see what they charge for parts and services, then you can buy the parts yourself and bring them in for installation.
I can get OEM clutches for 100$ normal price is $180 i believe for just the disc.
While resurfacing the flywheel and a new throw out bearing. your looking around $400 (correct me if Im wrong)
And to properly change the clutch the shop has to drop the transmission. Look to pay around 400 - 800. for the labor.
I would delete their number and find another shop ASAP

i paid 450 to have a new csc, master cylinder, and clutch kit/flywheel installed. the parts were around 1300. so total came to around less than 1800.. and i'll never have to mess with it again.

This summer, I took my Z to a transmission shop. It's what they specialize in. They charged me $400, and I had a coupon for $25.
Guess what they did? I gave them a CD006 transmission (brand new) and a clutch/FW combo to install. Yep, that's how much it cost me to get all of that installed.
Keep shopping.

Okay, thanks guys, that's what I thought. Talked to a different shop that a buddy of mine recommended that specializes in Z's. They quoted me $1300 for an Exedy Stage 3 clutch kit and Exedy flywheel. I looked around at some reviews and they seem to be fairly decent clutches and flywheels. Also, they have them in stock, so saving $1500 and about 9 or 10 days of service time sounds like a much better deal to me. Glad I listened to my gut and asked about it here! Label, I think I would die and/or make my Z blow up if I tried to do a major repair. I'm not even sure I could handle changing the brake pads on it, haha.

Pretty sure I paid ~ $200 to $300 for a clutch job on the Z. Parts should be at most ~ $800...
Also, exedy stage 3 is unnecessary and costs too much for what power you're making. I presume your engine is stock. Just go with JWT, it's well priced, performs well, and the flywheel friction plate is replaceable for follow on clutch jobs.I don't know exist stage 3 rating, but JWT is good for even moderate boosted cars.

its not hard... especially on the 03-06 with the external slave... just pop that off and then the trans unbolts and drops down pretty easy with 2 sets of hands. if he has the HR it is going to be harder since the slave is internal, unlike the de you will have to bleed the clutch line
