Hi, folks!
I'm the original owner of a 2003 350Z with stock parts and 53k miles. Last night, the Check Engine Light started blinking for the very first time, and we all know what that means. Having it fail at only 53k miles doesn't seem right.![](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/icon27.gif)
My question:
Is the catalytic converter system covered under warranty?
Thank you!
Dan

I plan on taking it to the dealership, but I was afraid the warranty expired after 8 years. It's odd the light came on for the first time ever about 100 miles after I took it to the dealership for another issue.

If there is an Autozone, Adavanced Auto Parts or O'Reilleys in your area, they will read the codes for free and give you an idea of what is wrong. You still might have to take it to the dealer, but you would be a step ahead knowing what might be wrong. I am also the original owner of a 2003 and I have 23.000 miles on mine.

I should also note that, after I drove the car about 50 miles after I received it back from the dealership, the car started idling hard (while in neutral, the stick noticeably giggles, and the giggling can be felt through the seats). Any thoughts in advance of me taking it to the dealership this week?

Nice. And I thought 53k miles was low.

I had the same problem at 28k miles was stored most of the time. The dealer mentioned that the culprit is the battery. Although my battery was fine, it was running too low. I replaced the battery and reset the code and no problem since.

Unfortunately, my battery was replaced about a month ago, so I doubt that's the culprit. But if it is, it'll be replaced on their dime.

Both of the cats on my 2008 were dead before I hit 18,000 miles. I only use Chevron Premium, I scan the car once a month and all maintenance is performed religiously. The cats on this car are JUNK and are the one thing that make me think I'll sell it when it turns 10. I only have 26,000 miles on it now, and had originally planned on keeping it for 20 years or more. We'll see what happens. You can almost bet your other cat is going to crap out on you before too long. My first one died at 16,500 miles and the second one bought it at 17,800. Both were fully covered under the emmissions warranty, but the dealership didn't want to figure out what was causing the failures.
