Need help with 2008 convertible top!!!
My husband and I purchased an 08 350Z convertible about 2 months ago. Recently the convertible top light came on and the top hesitates when opening. It will open about 75% and then begin to hesitate. The top will come back up/close with zero hesitation. The light is blinking when top is up/closed and the light is off when the top is down. The canvas top was new when we purchased the car. We took it to a local convertible top repair shop and he said top was fine and bands were replaced recently. He believed it to be an electrical issue and referred us to the dealership.
It is at the dealer now and they say it might be some control module. I should also note that the driver window also started to not work. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. The dealer thinks it might all be related. I am taking issue with them "thinking" it "might" fix the problem. Do I seriously have to pay for them to keep replacing parts until they get it right? We paid the $90 diagnostic fee and all together they want about $950. This dealer is also about 20 minutes away and not our local dealer. This location was recommended by several people. I don't want to pay $950 and find out it was a cheap fix all along.
I did a search on these forums and did find a similar issue and the guy said it was a short in the seat tilt cancel switch. I am completely clueless about all of this and I would really appreciate any insight. Thanks so much!!!

The ZR top is a pretty complex piece. Everything has to work properly (window rolls partially down before opening sequence, seat rolls up slightly, etc.), otherwise the system will detect a defect and set to light. Sorry to say it, but the dealership (and tech assigned to the job) will have to go through the diagnostic tree to figure out what the problem(s) are and fix them. Cheap fixes with the ZR top are not usually the case...
