Default Power steering loss, check engine light on

I was driving down an exit (40-50 mph) and stopped at a light, was going to turn right and all of a sudden I couldn't accelerate and steering to one side was difficult. Shut my car down and turned it back on. Worked like normal except the check engine light was on.
This has happened to me once, like a year or two ago, but eventually the light went away. I wasn't able to get it checked, but now I'm wondering what went wrong. Before I go get my engine checked was wondering if anyone had any idea what could have happened... The stealership I usually go to is trying to charge me $90 just to get it read.
I've searched around and not much I can find, just some suggestions here and there.
I have a popcharger, 5/16th spacer, and motordyne tdx v2 installed.

have you checked your belt. It may have broke it controls your power steering but your brake light should also be on.

Yeah, that's not the case. I just replaced my driving belt a couple months ago.
