Question Need Some Tips for CD009 Tranny swap

Hey everybody in the Z world, I have my 03' Touring and just hit 80k miles on it. As most of you all know, the 6MT Tranny/Gearbox sucks *** because of the common 2nd to 3rd gear grind due to premature syncro wear, being that the brass syncros are soft and more brittle as compared to the CD009 tranny in the later z33's. I'm not planning on pulling the trigger anytime soon, as I still need the money for the part and labor and my 6MT tranny is still fine for the most part too. 2nd --> 3rd and SOMETIMES 3rd --> 2nd (w/ revmatching) only grinds when I pass 4500rpm. The rest of my shifting works just fine. Just may potentially get a CD009 once my tranny really goes to $H!T

Now, I'm a little unclear when it comes to actual fitment with the CD009. I've read that some say that the CD009 will fit just fine on their earlier model Z's and some say that you need a shorter pivot ball and/or a different/upgraded shift fork? Wanted to get some clarification and figure out if this is true or not...

So the main question is, Can I simply buy a CD009 off of z1motorsports.com and install it then and there? Or do I need to buy other components (i.e. shift fork, shorter pivot ball, etc) so that the CD009 will fit properly? And if so, where can I get these other parts? Let me know what you guys think!!

i have heard some trannys come with the fork, but to be sure just call Z1 and they will tell you everything you will need. Save you alot of time and effort.

the ones for the hr have a different back plate, but they do make them for the de's, you just have to specify. there is another member here that put the 009 in his last year, he got it from Z1

My cd009 from CZP was a bolt on. I cant remember that I had to change something out. You could order the tougher pivot ball if you want. Mine was a 2004 model with cd003 originally.
