Default Need advise for my new 350Z fluid change

Hello Guys,
I just bought a 2004 350Z last week, and im in the process of doing the fluid change this weekend. I have some questions that you might be able to help me with. I know someone will tell me to do a search... but i have looked everywhere and i still cant understand everything... so if you can help me, i will really appreciate that.

Im going to use Royal Purple 10w40 for the engine with a K&N Filter. (im almost sure with this)

I need to change the oil for the Auto Transmission as im sure the previous owner never did, i was thinking on using the Royal Purple 75w90 MAX GEAR for this, but i dont know if it will be ok... ANY HELP?

Also i think i need to change the diff oil also so i was thinking on using the same Royal Purple 75w90 for that...

Any recomendations?
My main concern is the oil for the Auto Tranny as i dont want to mess it up...

Please help!

ENGINE OIL: Royal Purple 10-40 is fine but factory spec is 10-30 - however, seeing as where you are, the extra weight might be helpful. In any event, it's not going to hurt the car.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:
No. That's a substitute for GL-5 or GL-4 gear oils for manual transmissions. You need Nissan Matic-S (supersedes Matic-J). There are other ATFs that are acceptable in lieu of Matic-S (believe Royal Purple Max ATF IS but best to check.) If it were me, I'd stick with Nissan Matic-S ATF.

Also keep in mind that ATF is not only the gear/band lubricant but the hydraulic fluid for the tranny as well; so using the EXACT RIGHT fluid viscosity and formulation is KEY, hence, my recommending you stick with factory fluid.

Oh, and contrary to what many chemical people say, I recommend you do NOT flush with chemical flush additives. It removes too many of the built up varnishes on friction surfaces inside which can lead to slippage and other AT killing issues.

DIFFERENTIAL: As long as it's a quality GL-5 fluid in the correct weight (SAE 80W-90), you're fine. No need to go aftermarket (recommend Nissan fluid again) but if you prefer, Redline, RP, Lucas all make suitable replacement fluids. Should also be suitable for VLSD in all models above Base.

Hope this helps.

Mic

Thanks for the help! So Quick!

I have never had a Auto Transmission so i was afraid of doing something stupid...

Ill look for the Nissan ATF you recommended.

Also make sure you read the Factory Service Manual for the correct ATF drain and fill procedure

Only one thing to correct: Nissan recommends 5W-30 weight oil for the VQ, not 10W-30. Read the UOA thread and you'll find 5W-30W will protect just fine.

Oooops, yer right, good catch.

Y'all are witnesses to my first mistake in 10 years!!!

In my defense, I doubt Costa Rica would ever require the 5 rating though. Heh heh...
