Default Weird problem with seat belt light

The situation, I have a 2008 Grand Touring Roadster, the seat belt light started coming on even though I am buckled up. I found that if I buckled the passenger side the light would go off. BTW the airbag off light is illuminated the whole time. Any suggestions? I have searched on this site and did not see a similar situation.

Try resetting the airbag light. I know the procedure is searchable here, because I did it on my car last year.

Thanks Dean, but my airbag light isn't on in the dash just the seat belt light. The airbag light I was referring to is in the mirror that says the passenger airbag is off when no one is sitting in the seat.

There was a recall done the 2008 model year for a faulty SRS sensor in the passenger seat. That may be your problem.

I noticed today that I can turn off the light by banging on the passenger seat bottom. Is there a list of VINs effected by the recall?

It's all 2007s and 2008s. That sounds like a bad sensor (it's in the bottom passenger seat pad.) Here's the info:

Summary: Nissan is recalling 204,361 MY 2007-2008 Altima, Altima hybrid, 350Z, 350Z roadster, MY 2008 Altima coupe, rogue, MY 2009 murano, and infiniti MY 2007-2008 G35 sedan, MY 2008 G37 coupe and EX35 passenger vehicles equipped with Continental automotive systems' occupant classification system (OCS) control units. A varistor in the OCS control unit located in the passenger seat cushion may have been manufactured out of specification. Under certain conditions, this could cause an interruption of signal between the OCS and the air bag control unit (acu).

Consequence: This could result in the passenger air bag being suppressed which could fail to provide adequate protection in the event of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will test the signal between the OCS and acu systems using a special tool to check that it is functioning as designed. If necessary, the seat cushion (containing OCS hardware) will be replaced with a new one manufactured to specification. The recall began on November 4, 2008. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

For detailed information & supporting documents, see the official NHTSA page concerning recall #08V521000

I contacted Nissan and they tell me my car is not part of the recall. No surprise there, that is how my luck runs
