Default P1815 Code

Hey guys kinda new here I’m having a little bit of trouble with the ses light and an error code. I have a P0128 code which doesn’t seem all that bad and a P1815 code which really scares, me I’ve done research but don’t seem to understand what exactly the problem is any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum, Demonic.

Here is a link to the Factory Service Manual. Many find this beneficial for diagnosing and repairing most problems that occur on their G/Z. I highly recommend you save that for future reference.

https://www.nicoclub.com/archives/ni...e-manuals.html

Once you have opened the FSM, choose the year of your Z then select "AT.PDF". Information pertaining to the diagnostic, troubleshooting, and repair procedures for P1815 and the Manual Mode Switch begin on page 173.

If you have any further problems, let us know.

Hey there OP ...I too been having problems with my wife's G35 auto tranny and codes P1716 and P1815

the P1815 switches are in the shift assembly.

I'm searching on how to remove the pieces to get to it, and once I do I'll post the steps on how to to get to it.
The basic steps to check to see if the switches are working correctly is as follows
1 - turn the ignition to ON, car off
2 - shift to Manual, a 1 should display on dash as that is the first gear
3 - then put car into P and start the car and drive the car in Manual mode, the display on the dash should display the correct gear as you manually shift up and down....do that for all 5 gears.

IF you don't get a 1 on step 2 then very likely your shift handle's switches are acting up.

the switches DON'T appear to be replaceable from parts department(requiring you to replace the whole assembly, which of course is not available) , but they are nothing more than microswitches, and should be available at a Granger like store or someplace online.
There should be one switch for going to Manual mode, one switch for going UP in gear and one switch going Down in gear.

I am going to be dismantling my wife's shift assembly and will show you where the switches are, if I can get to them.

it is very possible that the switches are just dirty or there is some fluff that has wedged in the wrong place.

Hello,
I also have problem to get into manual mode, it is always stay in D no meter what I'm doing with the shifter,
so I guess it is a problem with the switch for going to Manual mode, and not with the two switches for going UP and Down in gear.
do you know how this switch for going to Manual mode looks like? where is it locating? photo? and how to test it?
the other two I found

thanks,
Tzur
