The other day i was teaching my friend how to drive manual in my 03 Z. After a while i hopped in the driver seat and we went to the store. When we got back in the car it did not start and i heard the starter click. We push started it and on the drive home smoke started to come out of the vents and smelled exactly like clutch. (probably unrelated but im putting it in just in case it isnt unrelated)i checked the battery and starter at the parts store and they are fine (starter is a year old and battery is 3 months old) i checked the relay by swapping it with the high beam relay and the high beams worked but the car didnt start. After that i checked the clutch interlock switch just in case. I unplugged it and tried to start it and the starter didnt click so i knew it wasnt that but since you never know with cars, i bypassed it anyway and it didnt help. I have no idea what to do from here.

 

Forgot to mention i tried jumping it and nothing happened

How did they check the starter at the "parts store" ?

 

when i turn the key the starter just clicks. I took it to advanced auto because they test them for free, i didnt see what he did but im guessing he just bench tested it like most people do

 

Usually that means bad ground or bad connection when it just clicks
