New belt squeals....why?
Hey guys
ive replaced the drive belt (alternator and ps belt) on my 2003 350z a couple of times. But every time I put a new one on it squeals no matter how much I adjust (it obviously will squeal more/less depending on the tension). I put the old cracked worn out belt back on and the problem goes away. What am I doing wrong? If it was the actual tensioner I assume it would make the noise even with the old belt installed. It’s probably user error but I’m not sure. Do I need to lightly lubricate the belt before installing? Thanks

Tip: before reinstalling the new belt, get some steel wool, rough up the grooves (break the glaze) of all the pulleys them get some belt dressing and put it on the pulleys. Reinstall belt.
If that doesn’t fix it, a pulley is loose or otherwise out of line.
