hey, i have been reading and posting in this forum for a little while now and thought i would try and start a thread to maybe poke a little fun at ourselves. I have seen other threads in other areas of these forums where people have posed the question: which model is best: track, touring, enthusiast, etc. Naturally different people have offered different answers depending on what a person is looking for.

Well I am here to pose the opposite: Which model is the worst and which seems to have the most problems with it? I know this may seem funny but each model has a few features that are unique to it and some of these have problems that others dont. For example, I have the touring model automatic so not only do i have the feathering issue, but i also have the bose radio crap, grease streaks and others. What I dont have if the tranny problem. Also I have heard that some colors are worse than others cause of noticeable paint chipping etc.

In my opinion I would think the 6-speed manual Touring may have been the unluckiest model. These cars seem to be plagued with the worst of all the worlds: feathering, blose radio problem, the tranny problem, leather seat problem, and also the rear hatch problem (I recently started a thread about the hatch and it seems that primarily touring model owners are the main ones responding). Add on top of this a color that would chip or show wear easily and you have yourself one heck of a problem-child.

I am interested in hearing other opinions. In a way, it might be therapeutic.

 

Well, I don't think the touring 6-speed is the worst. Its just that most people here bought the touring and got the manual tranny which is the one which for many is having some problems.

I think the window grease isnt model specific, nor is the feathering. Hmmm that wasn't therapeutic

 

I have an 04 touring roadster with leather. What is the problem you are talking about with leather seats?

 

all of 03 Z models have the window streaks, so-called paint problems, seat fraying and feathering issues, if anything the Touring model would be the only one with the bose problem. I had my Bose amp replaced and my car is fine. I do the the window streak problem but I dont mind.

 

03 Chrom Silver Track. problems: window streaks(less a problem now), at 10,000 miles, starting to show tire feathering. and now some seat fraying. But i still love my Z. IMHO, my current Z is stil better then my old E36 BMW which had more problems.
