Air Bag - side impact sensor location
At a recent track day this crash barrier came out and smashed into the side of my Z and the seat air bag went off .
Told I would need to replace the side impact sensor. Also have the central, under centre console, control unit wiped clean and either replace the seat air bag or fit a 2.2 ohm resistor in the socket. Great but where is the side impact sensor ? No help from the 350Z-uk.com so started tearing unnecessary things out.
To save you having to do the same. Mines a roadster and behind the drivers seat is a 21"x12" clipped in panel. Sprise this out and behind is a 10" hole. Through and to the left is the seat belt "roller" held in by a 14mm bolt at the base and a difficult to get at 10mm bolt at the top. Withdraw the roller and behind you will see the air bag sensor held in by 2 x 10mm nuts.Behind the passenger seat is a locker so may be bit more difficult to access .
I got the side sensor and replacement seat air bag second hand off e bay and a company on e bay wiped the central unit. Tested before replaced seat and air bag light went off. Put seat it in the car and light started flashing. Did the switch ignition on and off procedure which cured that . Replacing the seat air bag unit is quite easy as Nissan thoughtfully fitted a zipped back panel. So all now legal and safe but with a ripped seat side.
