Default 3rd gear grind

Just started happening today around 27k miles.

Search function is down, so i couldnt search for this. IIRC, Nissan is replacing tranny's for this?

How long does it usually take? Pulling and installing a tranny should prolly take about 4-6 hours, but how long is the dealer taking to do this?

How long for the parts to come in?

good luck... first off, the dealer has to be able to replicate the problem. So, unless 3rd grinds all the time, you may have to leave the car with them to let them drive it when it's cold.

Second... now that Houston is heating up for Summer... the tranny will be warm enough that it won't grind. You get the most griding when it's cold outside and the tranny is cold. Mine will grind every morning on the way to work when its cold outside.

I mentioned to Mossy Nissan that mine grinds when it's cold and they said they have NEVER heard of ANYONE having this problem. They said they could drive it and see if it's doing anything. But, I don't want to leave it there overnight.

Anyway... I posted something in the Texas forum about this... looking for anyone in Houston also having the same problem.

cheers,

PeteH

it grinds all the time, all of a sudden ... on every shift to 3rd gear, unless i go from 2nd wait for about 5 seconds then shift.

i will absolutely not leave my car overnight for them to test drive alone, as im sure when i do they will curb a wheel crack the body kit, etc... i will have to be in the car or driving them.

well... keep me posted on your progress. If your dealer says you are due a new transmission (which is the ONLY fix... don't listen if they say they will rebuild the tranny) then I'll go there and have them look at mine.

don't go to Mossy on I-10... they are good for simple things, but they have no clue about anything that can go wrong with a Z...

DO NOT TAKE IT TO STERLING MCCALL NISSAN!!

Try Mossy... oh, btw, when I left my car at Sterling McCall Nissan for windows tsb, they "test" drove it for 16 miles... I wonder why they need to drive 16 miles just to do the damn window tsb...

I had this done to one of my cars a few months ago. They had the car for about 5 days. I was pissed it took so long... but they replaced the tranny for free... so i guess I can't complain.
