Windshield Cracked 7" (GRRRR)
If it is not one thing its another. Well I noticed this crack after taking a road trip yesterday. WTF! I am so pissed right now. My check engine light comes on, now THIS CRAP!
Anyone know if I have to replace the entire windshield. Crack is about 7" and has grown about 4" while sitting in the sun. Its in the garage now, but the damage is done.
Think its time to get rid of my personalized plate.
My question is, I have a $500 deductible for comprehensive and collision. Is the windshield deductible, lower? I will call my insurance company today and find out.
Anyone know how much these windshields go for?
Anyone else have their windshields replaced? What did it cost you, ect?

If I call them today and lower my deductible to $100, well you get the idea. How would the insurance company know it happened before I lowered the deductible?
I just had mine replaced last Friday. My insurence covered the whole thing so I don't know exactly what it cost. But I'm sure my insurence agent will be calling me to tell me my rate is going up soon....
****One thing you gotta make sure is that who ever is replacing the glass, replaces it with a true OEM windshield. Some companies make their own windshields and they suck. If you ever consider selling your car, not having the stock windshield will decrease the value of your car! and it makes it look like the car has been in an accident!

How would you know its an OEM windshield?
Actually, I'd look around for a PPG windshield. The OEM one is quite fragile and I've read several things on this site comparing the OEM one that was removed to a PPG that was being installed and how much thicker, etc. the new one was vs. the OEM. I'd do a search and read up on it.

Weigh the pros and cons for insurance invovlement. I am not sure how much the windshield will run, but I think you can find one for around $300 outside of the dealership. If your rates get raised and its only a $100 deductible, it might not be worth the hassle of the $200.

Well I just got off the phone with USAA, and the they said Colorado does not require insurance companies to have separate glass policies, therefore, I am NOT covered and they don't provide glass coverage.
They said since my deductible is $500, they will pay for anything after $500.
WTF are insurance comapinies for then? I guess to RIP you off. I am so pissed right now, I could scream!
I HATE insurance companies, they are worse than car salesman!

Well, they came out to replace my windshield today, and the guy said it could possibly be repaired. Well another guy came out and said it might be a possiblity it will spread while he was trying to repair it.
Well I guess after all the bad luck I have been having paid off, finally some good news, the guy was able to repair it. I saved $230 on not buying a new windshield, and my insurance company paid for the entire repair. Guess insurance companies are not all that bad.
NOT!! You can still see a slight crack but not as wide.

let this be a lesson though, like it was for me. conclusion: these cars are virtual road magnets for debris, and god knows what else. now that you got off scott free, go back and drop your deductible. i am paying the extra up front for zero dollar deductible. that way i can sleep easier at night knowing nothing will come out of my pocket. i dont want to be a forseer of bad stuff, but just wait untill someone has to replace a headlight on those xenon things. word has it those things are pricey around 500 bucks sometimes.

Well getting it replaced today for $230. At least they are coming to my house to replace it.
Did I say I love insurance companies.

Contrary to what everybody says, I think almost all OEM windshields are probably the same, and in fact all Japanese windshields likely come from the same manufacturer. I don't think the replacement windshields from Safelite or whatever are really going to be any stronger than the OEM one. Just my opinion though...
I love USAA!
I was rear ended a month ago, and they waved my 500 deductible so I can get the car fixed immediately with no cost to me!
They've always treated me very well, and I've cost them more money than I've paid over the years....
After about 2 claims (one costing them in excess of 30k) and a couple of tickets I actually get a good driver discount.
They told me they only go back 3 years, and you dont get a hike in insurance till your 3rd incident.

I don't think they waived your deductable.. If you were re-ended and it's not your fault, the other insurance company of the person in fault usually pays your deductible and damanges. If they refuse, and it's obviously their fault, you can usually get the other company to do so. I might be wrong here, but that's my understanding of it.
If the insurance company cannot determine who's at fault, then you would have to pay the deductable. With mine, I paid half my deductible because it was hit and run. Not my fault, but then again the insurance company could not locate the driver at fault. They bit half the bullet, as did I.

prior to this i went to the dealer, they wanted $900...
489glass.com $345.00, and i didnt use my insurance...
great job, great price, and great service...
also, the stock winshield had no tint... the new one had a slight tint to it, makin my ride darker....

No offense, but thats why we pay high insurance because of stuff like this! I, along with other non-claimers are paying your excess. Your statement does not make sense. Why would a company waive $500? Just doesn't make sense.

I save about 160 bucks a year on insurance for having the good driver discount....So roll those eyes all you want....
They're waving the 500 deductible because they feel confident that they will get their money back from the other guys insurance on down the line. They could have had my car fixed for all but the 500, and let me recoupe the loss later. I praised USAA because they're doing me a favor by not making me come up with 500 bucks in order to get my car fixed until I can get a settlement from the other guys insurance....
I dont see how you're "paying my excess" why are you a "non-claimer"....If you get in a wreck, and you have anything much over your deductible its absolutely stupid not to file a claim. That's why I pay for insurance.....
Now if you fear getting dropped or having to pay a huge increase in your rates, then thats another story.
USAA has told me that my rates would not be raised until my 3rd "mark" on my record, and those marks only go back 3 years. So I can have 2 tickets, or 2 wrecks and as long as I do not hit a 3rd one I pay exactly the same rate. Sounds like a good deal to me.....I guess if you did something stupid like get a DUI they may change their mind, but this is how they've explained it to me, and in the past I've had to make several claims, and I've had a couple tickets and never have had a rate increase with them.

I have the check here on my desk for the full payment to the body shop once the car is ready.
Yes the other guys insurance is expected to pay for the cost later down the line, but USAA could have had me pay my 500 share of the repairs.
In fact USAA has sent us a refund on premiums in the past for not having claims. They mentioned something about having a good year, and gave a little bit back....
They are the best insurance that I've been able to find or hear about....
