film/residue on inside of windshield
Does anyone else have an obnoxious smelling film being blown (from the ventilation system) onto the inside of their windshield? The film looks a bit like a white powder and it is slighty oily. It is not easily removed from the windshield. Could this be residue/libricant from the A/C refrigerant? Can anyone provide any info to help correct this problem? P.S. The cooling system has not lost any antifreeze and a pressure test showed no antifreeze leaks, so I have ruled out leaks in the heater core.

A/C refrigerant shouldn't be able to blow into your car through the ventilation openings.
There is a somewhat waxy/oily film that gets on the windshield when it is hot. I assumed that this was the volatile hydrpcarbons and such leaching out of the interior plastic.

This is probably the outgassing of the interior plastics. I am in AZ and the problem is not very noticable. You can mix a bit of white vinegar and water (about 10% vinegar) put it on a cloth and wipe a couple times. Then, wipe with water on a cloth, then use a good glass cleaner and soft cotton towels, and it should look like new.

i too occassionally get this white residue when the car sits on hot days. i just use a heavy dose of windex all over the winshield, then i use the windex wipes over that & it cleans it up pretty nicely. its happenned twice so far since its been gettin really hot here in florida & i believe its starting to do it again. i remember this happening in a few previous cars ive had & it turned out being the scotchguard on the apholstry. in time it stopped fogging up...im hoping for the same with the z...........
