Default Just got my new baby home (test Pic)

Just brought her home last night and thought I'd try to upload a picture. This'll be my first on this forum so we'll see if the file size is too big or not.
I know pictures don't come much worse but I just took a snap shot of it in the old garage and I as barefoot... it's 15 degrees out tonight... so I made it quick!

TaDah!

LOL,
You know that was the very first thing I did when I got back from the dealership.
My 911 has a very sturdy rubber tipped aluminum bumper so I've never been too worried about it, but this thing has nothing but precious paint up front.

My wife was laughing at me for doing it, but I told her to back off because my original plan was to have 4 tennis ***** all around it.

Default Try Target

I bought a little gadget at Target for about $15. You mount it on the ceiling of your garage and it has a built-in motion sensor.
Once your car enters the garage a red laser beam shoots out.
Once the beam hits the top of your hood that means that you've pulled in far enough. It works great but I forget what it's called since I bought it about 2 years ago. This looks better than having a hanging tennis ball. Check out the automotive aisle in Target.

I use concrete blocks to stop the wheels. They cost me virtually nothing...

Concrete blocks? Never heard of that one. Pic please. I like the tennis ball. I bash it around when my car's not in the way.

Ha ha, this is the first I've heard of the tennis ball method, but now it has multiple uses! Pretty cool.

The tennis ball method is VERY high tech!!!!!
Please read carefully.....
The way I do it and I have my PhD in Tennisballlolgy.
Pull the car into the garage so that it's exactly as far as you want from the wall or DEMOman's case his workbench monstrocity thing. Choose a point on the car that you want the ball to hit. In the picture above you can see he chose the windshield I have mine basically at my hood.

From this point it's all adjustments. Hang a tennis ball from the ceiling at the required length so that it touches the car at the required spot and pull the car back in. GO SLOW as your guesstimation may be wrong (have another person assist is preferred). If you are off pull the car out and move the mounting point on the ceiling and try again. When done correctly you can pull in and once the ball touches your car you are exactly where you need to be from the wall or workbench thingy. I have two vehicles so I also have to worry about the distance from my jeep so I have it setup where I line the ball up with one of the indentions in the hood. Works every time.

Oh items required:
Tennis ball
String
2 small eye bolts
Ladder depending on heigth
Maybe some concrete bricks to make it interesting

We used a long board. Drove the car in as far as we wanted and put a board across the floor so the car stops on it. Seems like it would move, but it hasn't moved an inch in 12 years.

Took the car to work last night and cleaned the crap out of it.

I can't wait for nice weather to show up so i can actually justify detailing the exterior.

DAMN! Who needs infrared dectectors when you have a tennis ball and string?! Woo!

On a more serious note, that is a pretty ingenious albeit simple way to not get your car bashed up. I'd rather live with a tennis ball dangling from my ceiling than a scratch on my Z!

Talking Cool!

Nice! That looks like what I have in my grudge (that's how we pronounce the word garage in Texas)!

I picked mine up about a week ago and have 500 miles on her. It was snowing then and I can't yet get her into the garage. Needs some reorganization and then maybe. We got 10 more inches of snow last night so its sitting in the drive today. Took my daughters '92 jetta to work instead of subjecting the Z to salt and slush. The rear end is a little lively in the snow and I'm just getting used to the stick too. Love the tennis ball w/instructions!
Congrats.

Great pics, even though they are in a garage. They really show color and cleanliness.

My Syclone literally has 2 inches clearance from the garage door with it all the way pulled in. There are steps coming down from the kitchen that makes that side of the garage fairly short. I just pull in until I gentle bump the hand rail on the steps, then I know I'm good. I've thought about getting fancy with some gadget, but the steps just work I've been gentle and have gotten no scratches, although the thing has always run rough at low RPMs, so it is hard keeping it from hitting harder than expected.

lol... I would say this is an individual case and should not be repeated at home. Yikes!
