I just recently bought a digital rebel. I've always had an interest in this hobby but just never had the time to pick it up. So here's my first attempt.

Bad or good, im still learning.
f*ck watermarks and stupid crazy camera angles.

second pic.
looks good, but I like where everything is at, just show the whole car on the side not in the middle. Like what you did with PS.
Last 2 pic
I like the lighting effect that you did with PS. Just remember that if you are going to blur the background make sure you take care of the one that can be seen through the car windows. If you want to have a natural blur background get a 50mm lens. It is equal to the human eye.
Overall looks good. I actually like the dirty rim look. Just keep practicing. If your only lens is the one that came with the camera, ditch that POS. Get you something like 18-135mm or 70-200mm, not familiar with Canon lenses but get you some thing like that. Also a fish eye lens can be cool sometimes.
Have fun.

thanks!
Yeah i'll admit, im a complete n00b when it comes to cameras. And yes, i'm on the stock lens (18-55mm).
Just wondering; what does the 18-135 and 70-200mm lens have to offer? I saw a canon made 70-200mm over at fry's today. I was close to buying it but would rather do a little more research before making my purchase. I've been hearing a lot that sigma makes some good lens.

18-55mm doesn't do much. get the 70-200mm one and you will see how much better having that lens will be. Is very flexible, the zoom is awesome and it is an upgrade in quality from the generic one you have. For lenses I try to stick with the same brand as the camera. They have the same crystals and are design to work together. Also try to use PS as little as possible. Takes the fun out of getting creative with the camera.

Shooting a black car is a b!tch, you need lots of lighting from different angles. It is best to do it when the sun is setting or raising, like when the sky is redish. That way it will reflect the sunlight and show the lines of the car. A inexpensive way to make reflectors, get a large flat carboard and staple aluminum foil on it. Just try not to put to many wrinkles on it.

suprisingly, the pictures r3v posted up were real good. Like some of you said, he does need to ditch the EF S 18 - 55. But you can't go wrong with it on the count of the wide angles.

thanks everyone and thanks MR_X for sharing your info. My next purchase will be a 70-200mm canon. I did some research on HDR images and unfortunately, I currently don't have a copy of photoshop CS2 to do any kind of tone mapping. So hopefully, i can get into this as soon as i can. Never really thought of blending in 3 different exposure.
If can remember, the shutter speed was somewhere in the 900~ ish and the ISO at a low 100.
in do time. I just did a photoshoot for one of my clients and i'm starting to get a good feel for the camera. It's just like knowing my shortcuts when i'm developing.
Until then, more practicing with more criticism.

I'm a fan of Canon's 70-200mm lens. I bought one for my Rebel and pictures went from good point-and-shoot to true DSLR quality. Now my gripe with the camera is the load time on the memory card... race day is tough when you have to wait after every few shots. Tax refund soon; time to go shopping for electronics...
