Sunsets in Hawaii.

It was tricky getting the right aperture and shutter speed to play along with the focal length to get max DOF. I tried using auto-depth setting. Also Av with an aperture of f20+. Also, showing off the colors of the sunset is tricky. Like should you give it color, or should you give it COLOR, you know what I mean?
You won't beleive what I processed them with... DPP and iPhoto... I hate spending too much time on post...
I'll tell you what though, getting a car in a sunset is tougher than I expected. I'm going to experiment more with a san marino blue z next Thursday...

I think you misunderstood me. I'm mainly referring to pictures 1,2 and 5. (I actually really like the effect of the flared out sun coming from behind the clouds in the few last pictures) In those 3 pictures, there is plenty of detail in the shadows...the dark spots in the sand are very detailed. The highlights (ie. sun) is where the detail dropped off to the point that the sun and the area surrounding it merged into one large light spot. The same thing happened to me trying to get pictures of the sunrise over Haleakala when I was in Maui this year...the wind so was so bad and it was so cold I really didn't play with the settings or filters. Depending on whether the light meter picked up the sun or the craters, I either had a landscape with great detail but a enormous flare in the sky or a beautiful sky with a completely black foreground. It's difficult to balance the sky and foreground in pictures where the sun is in frame. You might benefit greatly from a graduated filter to knock the sky down a step or so.
I think the composition of the shots is beautiful though. You have a good sense of balance that many people seem to lack.
As far as post I just use the basic software that came with my D50. I'm trying to focus on improving my in-camera picture taking and don't want to rely on post processing as a crutch, especially since its a hobby. I can definitely appreciate someone who doesn't heavily modify the image, and doesn't need to.

Nirvana. But I need $100 for the HDR program ... and another $50 for a noise program. double
BTW, shot with the new 40D and kit lens.
I had to go back to the spot, it was very cloudy today. The sunrise in Nankuli is majestic... pretty much every day. It's dangerous there, but it's worth it.
