I guess it's just luck. The street wasn't too busy, so the owner pulled into the middle, and the other photog and I ran into the middle of the street, snapped a few shots, and that was it.

Unfortunately, there's something wrong with the lens/body combo I'm using... for whatever reason, there's an issue with the signal between the contacts on the lens (Tokina) and my camera body (Nikon). I even tried the lens out on different Nikon bodies, and I get the same result. It's very, very annoying.

No; it's a vinyl that's wrapped over the paint.

It's a vinyl wrap so it can be removed with no damage to the paint underneath.
