So by now, any of you who follow the story (or even care) know that the proposed merger between Honda and Nissan slowly but predictably died last month. But true to corporate politics and a case of "I ain't doin' nuttin' until that clown is gone!", the talks may be resumed. Also, Nissan wisely said (to themselves?) "We are not going to be a subsidiary of the people who make iPhones!!"
With the change in CEO, the talks with Honda may or may not bear much fruit. There's no question that Nissan finances are the critical issue and that's never a good position to negotiate from. Where does the Nissan-Renault Alliance fit into all this? A big problem was the French position on putting Nissan and Renault in with a single holding company that Nissan objected to. What'll happen now? Probably going to be messy and complicated....
