A Day at the Japan GT Race Circuit
Sunday, October 31, 2004 – final Round 6 Japan GT race .. 300 km or about 190 miles … at the beautiful Auto Polis Track in Kyushu.
Got up at 4AM .. on the road at 5AM .. and about 2 1/2 hours later arrived at the race. Cloudy, threatening rain, about 60 degrees … perfect (although 90% chance of rain, it held off and later turned sunny).
I had the ball of my life at this race. Watching the pre-race warm-ups, walking the area, pit walk area with special ticket, in-between shows with some drifting while watching at the retaining wall, the vendors booths, great food stalls, and the race itself proved to be one of the best days of my life.
The next race is at Suzuka followed with going to California at the California Speedway on December 17-19, 2004. I highly, VERY highly, recommend going if you can. And better yet, come to Japan for one of these events next year. Fun, competitive, meets the drivers and team manager, see the cars (and team girls), walk the pit areas, feel the race -- nothing like it.
The winner of the Auto Polis was the NISMO Xanavi Z #1 .. challenged many times by Supras .. lots of passing… the Calsonic Z came in 5th. The #23 Z Pitwork/Motul came in 9th. Here is the link for the results.. for both the 500 and 300 entry http://www.jgtc.net/index_en.htm
Here is a view of the course… the elevation changes made it very interesting …
